Live-in and 24-hour care at home
When somebody can no longer be alone for long, care moves in. Live-in care means one person living in the home. Round-the-clock care means caregivers in shifts, awake at every hour.
Which one you need
- Live-in care suits someone who needs help through the day and occasionally at night. The caregiver lives in the home and needs real time to sleep and rest.
- 24-hour care suits someone who needs somebody awake at all hours. That is usually two or three caregivers working shifts.
- If nights are getting harder, ask whether the caregiver is actually sleeping. If not, you need shifts.
What a live-in caregiver needs
- A private room, and agreed time off each day and each week.
- A clear written list of duties, and who covers the days off.
- A plain agreement about meals, the house and the phone.
- An honest description of the nights before they arrive.
Employment is between you
A live-in caregiver working for your family may be your household employee, and overtime, rest-period and tax rules vary by state. Kalvri is not the employer and does not give legal or tax advice, so check your state's rules before you agree terms.
How Kalvri helps you find them
Kalvri is an iPhone app, not an agency. You say what the care really looks like, and Kalvri ranks every caregiver whose hours, skills, languages, distance and rate fit, with the reason each one was chosen. Each morning it suggests the one who fits best.
- What you require comes first. Everyone who can cover your hours, your budget and the care you described is ranked ahead of anyone who can't, and somebody who has said no to something you need is never suggested.
- Each caregiver arrives with the reason they were chosen, in plain words. What they told Kalvri is labelled as theirs, because Kalvri verifies nothing.
- When you both say yes, a private conversation opens. Ask for references, ask for a time, and decide for yourself.
- You agree the rate with your caregiver and pay them directly. Kalvri takes no fee and no cut.
