Help with bathing, dressing and getting around
Personal care is intimate work, and it asks for skill and dignity in equal measure. The right caregiver knows how to move someone without hurting either of them, and how to make help feel ordinary.
What personal care includes
- Bathing, showering, grooming and dressing.
- Help with the toilet and incontinence care.
- Transfers from bed to chair, and help with walkers and wheelchairs.
- Walking practice and fall prevention.
- Eating, and keeping skin healthy for someone who sits or lies most of the day.
Say exactly how your person moves
Independent, with a walker, needing help with transfers, or using a wheelchair — each asks something different of a caregiver's body and training. On Kalvri, mobility is part of what you describe, so the caregivers you meet have said they do that work.
Questions to ask
- How do you help someone from bed to a wheelchair? Show me.
- Have you used a hoist or a transfer belt?
- How do you keep someone's privacy during a bath?
- What would you do if they started to fall?
How Kalvri helps you find them
Kalvri is an iPhone app, not an agency. You say what the care really looks like, and Kalvri ranks every caregiver whose hours, skills, languages, distance and rate fit, with the reason each one was chosen. Each morning it suggests the one who fits best.
- What you require comes first. Everyone who can cover your hours, your budget and the care you described is ranked ahead of anyone who can't, and somebody who has said no to something you need is never suggested.
- Each caregiver arrives with the reason they were chosen, in plain words. What they told Kalvri is labelled as theirs, because Kalvri verifies nothing.
- When you both say yes, a private conversation opens. Ask for references, ask for a time, and decide for yourself.
- You agree the rate with your caregiver and pay them directly. Kalvri takes no fee and no cut.
