Find a nanny who fits your family
A nanny becomes part of how your family runs. The hours have to fit, the approach has to fit, and your children have to light up when that person walks in.
Before you look
- The days and hours, including early starts, late finishes and school holidays.
- The ages of your children, and what the day involves: school runs, naps, meals, homework.
- Languages you want spoken, and whether driving is needed.
- Your budget, and whether this is part-time, full-time or live-in.
Questions to ask a nanny
- Tell me about a family you worked with for a long time. Why did it end?
- What does a good day look like with a child this age?
- How do you handle a tantrum, or a child who will not sleep?
- What would you do in a medical emergency? Do you have first aid and CPR training?
- Can I speak with two families you worked for?
After you choose
Write down the hours, the pay, time off and what happens when a child is sick. A paid trial day tells both of you more than any interview. A nanny may be your household employee, and tax rules apply, so check them before the first payday.
How Kalvri helps you find them
Kalvri is an iPhone app, not an agency. You say what the care really looks like, and Kalvri ranks every caregiver whose hours, skills, languages, distance and rate fit, with the reason each one was chosen. Each morning it suggests the one who fits best.
- What you require comes first. Everyone who can cover your hours, your budget and the care you described is ranked ahead of anyone who can't, and somebody who has said no to something you need is never suggested.
- Each caregiver arrives with the reason they were chosen, in plain words. What they told Kalvri is labelled as theirs, because Kalvri verifies nothing.
- When you both say yes, a private conversation opens. Ask for references, ask for a time, and decide for yourself.
- You agree the rate with your caregiver and pay them directly. Kalvri takes no fee and no cut.
